Driving to Gorongosa NP

Suzanne writes:

I have recently completed a trip to Gorongosa Reserve in Mocambique with seven others in three vehicles. By way of updating your guide I would draw your attention to the condition of the road
from Inchope to Caia (page 238/239). This is now possibly the worst road any of us (seasoned Africa
travellers) have ever travelled on, with huge potholes everywhere making travelling over 20km/hr impossible, most of the time we were at 5km/hr. It took over 5 hours to do the 40km from Inchope to Gorongosa.

The road south from Inchope to the Rio Save is the same, in parts worse. On top of this there are huge trucks (the main traffic) driving dangerously all over the road.

Please advise your readers as this is a real hazard for travellers.

Pemba accommodation

I can definitely recommend two lodges in Pemba: Umaca (next to Wimbi beach) which has a brilliant view on the bay and a lovely beach right in front. Rather upmarket but definitely worth it.

Ulala Lodge a bit outside the city is really nice for just a daytrip, the rent canoes and SUPs as well.
